Kah Ribon – Hashem Inviting Us to Return to Our Beit Hamikdash

Last week we ended with a ניגון, based on what we learned, based on what we learned last week in in רב בירמן. And that got a, it brought a lot of שמחה to the בעלי מנגנים, to my friend נפתלי. We were, we were singing one of his ניגונים, it was very, very special. I just forgot to bring the guitar right now, but he's going to bring it.

This is one of his ניגונים.Okay. So if you can open up please on דף רל"ט. דף רל"ט in the ספר רב בירמן on, on, on שבת. Quickly recapping the last thing we learned last time.

We're at the end of קריבון, which is so special. We're learning קריבון for, I don't know how long it's been already, months already. We're going to do it, we're going to continue to our next זמר after today's שיעור. But in קריבון, we were going from the beginning, from, from שלח אורך ואמתך, רב טובך, כל דילין, and the last one למקדשך תוב ולקדש קדשים.

And we saw something so beautiful. I was thinking about this a lot this week, the תפילה of שלמה המלך by חנוכת הבית. יהי ה' אלקינו עמנו כאשר היה עם אבותינו, אל יעזבנו ואל יטשנו. That's what we were learning last time, remember? The שלמה המלך is saying, ה' should be with us like he was with our fathers, right? But the way he was with our fathers was without a בית המקדש.

So why am I דאווענען that יהי ה' אלקינו עמנו כאשר היה עם אבותינו? You remember this, חבר'ה? But it was so beautiful because what he was saying was, they had a משכן in their hearts. They built a מקדש in their hearts. יהי ה' אלקינו עמנו כאשר היה עם אבותינו. שלמה המלך was so nervous that we build the בית המקדש and we would say, okay, now there's a structure.

It's less important that we do that עבודה פנימית now. No, no, שלמה המלך says, יהי ה' אלקינו עמנו, now that we have a building, כאשר היה עם אבותינו. No one should feel for one second that now they're פטור from doing this ענין of מקדש פנימי וכל זה. That's how we ended off last, last שיעור.

That was a, that was from the עקידה of רבי יצחק עראמה. That was a חידוש from the עקידה.So now look at the top of left, the left column of רל"ט. רב בירמן says something beautiful. It's a lot of beautiful things here today.

We're going to see בעלז, we're going to see איז'ביץ. He brings up a lot of very interesting things over here. I never saw him bring the איז'ביצער before, till today. כה אמר הרב הקדוש מבעלזא, זכותו יגן עלינו.

כי לכאורה מצינו סתירה בדברי חז"ל הקדושים, שמקום אחד אמרו כי בית המקדש של מטה מכוון כנגד בית המקדש של מעלה, ואילו במקום אחר אמרו להיפך, כי בית המקדש של מעלה מכוון כנגד בית המקדש של מטה. Which one is it? One place חז"ל say the בית המקדש down here is מכוון, is connected, is mirrors the בית המקדש של מעלה. In other places they say the opposite. בית המקדש של מעלה mirrors the בית המקדש של מטה.

Which one is it? ומבאר הרב הקדוש, the בעלזער רב says, אין כאן כל סתירה. There's no contradiction here. אלא מתחילה עמד בית המקדש למעלה, לאחר שנים זכה שלמה המלך לבנות בית המקדש למטה, בנהו כנגד בית המקדש של מעלה. There's no סתירה.

What happened? For years, there was just this image of a בית המקדש של מעלה up there. Comes שלמה המלך in his infinite wisdom, and he draws down the בית המקדש של מעלה into a structure that's in our world, right? ומאז, but this is the punch, but since then that there's no בית המקדש anymore, ומאז שנחרב הבית, בכל זמן ומקום שהיהודי מקדש את עצמו ואת איבריו, כביכול נותן להקב"ה את בית מקדשו, ומכונו כנגד אותו היהודי. This is so deep. He says since that time that we don't have a physical structure called בית המקדש, every single time that I choose קדושה over non-קדושה, every time I use one of my limbs for a קודש, for a holy act, at that moment, the רבונו של עולם, what does he do? He takes his בית מקדש and he's מכוון it towards that ייד.

Every single time we do, the mirroring of what goes on up there gets mirrored based on, oh my God, there's a ייד today that he is choosing to still מקדש himself. שמים, take a look at this. This is unbelievable. This reminds me of a great story.

I just remembered it right now. I shared with you. I don't expect anyone to remember when I say things like this. But this was two years ago right before נעילה.

But this is a story I heard from from רב וויינבערגער years ago about רבי לוי. Do you remember the story about the בעל שם טוב and רבי לוי? The בעל שם טוב would speak about this חסיד of his all the time with more התלהבות than he would speak about them with other people. He was always talking about this צדיק.

And does anyone remember? Yeah? Toby? Okay, so... The תלמידים at a certain point started thinking maybe maybe he's just making this whole thing up. This guy never showed up to the בית מדרש, this רבי לוי. We haven't, no one else has heard of him.

מה, מה, מה זה הולך להיות? So he comes, so after a while, the בעל שם טוב one day after after learning, he says, חבר'ה, you want to meet רבי לוי? They're like, oh my God, he really is for real. So they say, yeah. 100% he says, great. Today after מנחה, we're going to go out to the fields or before מנחה and just just make sure you're ready.

So they come out with him and they're waiting with such התלהבות. They can't believe they're going to actually meet this צדיק they've been thinking about. He was, they, he was so built up in their imagery, right? So this רבי לוי, so suddenly the בעל שם טוב, they're all hiding behind a few trees or something looking into the forest. And the בעל שם טוב says, okay look, look.

And now who comes out? Some hillbilly wearing like overalls, he has a beard, a יארמולקע, ציצית, sweating, it's a hot day. Hot Ukrainian summer, sweating bullets, and he's harnessed, whatever he's doing with the horses or with the, I don't know exactly what he was doing, maybe he was harvesting. לא ידע מה, but he's sweating, he's sweating and then he he stops, he looks at his watch, he stops for a second, and he starts דאווענען מנחה. And they're like...

The בעל שם טוב says, that's, that's רבי לוי. That's רבי לוי. מזל טוב, he stopped to דאווענען מנחה. Like what's the big, what's the big כאפ here? And the בעל שם טוב says, no, no, now look.

And then comes walking out a הייליגע, הייליגע ייד, long beard, shining prince, looking so regal, looks amazing. And this ייד looks, comes, takes a look in רבי לוי's eyes, starts crying his eyes out and runs away from the forest. So the בעל שם טוב says, you thought, you thought you knew who you were looking at? That was אליהו הנביא. And אליהו הנביא was told when he was in שמים that thousands of years after חורבן הבית, there's still going to be a ייד that works so hard, sweats, hot days, לא משנה מה, מנחה comes, he comes and thinks about the רבונו של עולם and gives שבח והודאה.

אליהו הנביא couldn't believe that such a ייד could still exist thousands of years after the גילוי, after when God's light was revealed and it's been concealed for thousands of years, he couldn't believe there's still be a ייד in the world that actually takes their time in the middle of whatever is going on to think about the רבונו של עולם. How could it be thousands of years later? So they wanted to give אליהו הנביא a treat in שמים. So they said, you want a treat? He says, yeah. He says, we'll let you look in the eyes of a person like this.

Us too thousands of years later since חורבן הבית, it's so, it's so distant, distant from our, from our day-to-day lives, this ענין of a total גילוי where there's no concealment and there's no הסתר פנים, nothing. But, that's why I said back then, I said, can you imagine if אליהו הנביא asked today for a treat? Would you feel like they would grant him to come into our שול? You know, would they grant אליהו הנביא to come to your שבת table and get a glimpse of you? So I feel like very connected to them when he says the בעלזער רב, בכל זמן ומקום שהיהודי מקדש את עצמו, at that moment that you're, you are really bringing yourself back into the בית המקדש. That's really what it is. כביכול נותן להקב"ה את בית מקדשו, ומכונו כנגד אותו היהודי.

At that moment, whatever mirroring in שמים is happening with בית המקדש של מעלה, ממך היא, ממך היא, it's from you. What the בית המקדש looks like in שמים these days is מכוון כנגד the moment that you choose קדושה in your life. It's crazy. But this is all tied into למקדשך תוב ולקדש קדשים, עבדיך בייחוד, רוחים ונפשים.

This is what we were speaking about. This is the זמר. וכבר מצינו בדברי חז"ל ששאלו זקני אתונא את רבי יהושע בן לוי, מציעתא דעלמא היכא? The גמרא in בכורות says, what does this mean? פירוש, היכן אמצעו של העולם? The Greek חכמים asked רבי יהושע בן לוי, where is the middle of the world? Are there any more pages by the way, חבר'ה? Did the copies go around? Okay. There's one more ספר.

I'll give it to Avi. Avi? Oh, sorry, sorry, sorry. I'm sorry, I didn't see you here. וכבר מצינו בדברי חז"ל ששאלו זקני אתונא את רבי יהושע בן לוי, מציעתא דעלמא היכא? פירוש היכן אמצעו של העולם? זקף לאצבעו ואמר להו הכא.

So what does that mean? זקף לאצבעו, he lifted up his finger and he said here. What does this mean? ובפשטות הכוונה שדחה אותם בקש. ולכן זקף את אצבעו והראה על המקום שעמד בו, שהוא אמצעו של העולם. It's like he just wanted to like, חבר'ה, עזבו אותי.

It's like, okay, it's here. וכאשר שאלו אותו מנלן, how do you know this? אמר להם שיביאו חבלים למדוד. He said, bring, you want to know how I know this? Come, bring, bring a ruler. Huh? Bring a ruler.

Bring a ruler, bring ropes, bring, yeah. Kinda he was brushing them off, right? איי, says the הייליגע מי השילוח, יאך. חבר'ה, isn't it exciting to see the איז'ביצער here? Like I've never saw him here. אמר להם הרב הקדוש רבי מרדכי יוסף מאיז'ביצא, זכותו יגן עלינו, פירוש עומק דבריהם.

He was trying to bring the depth of what this story is all about. What's the question? What's the answer? How did he answer them? The middle of the world and he lifts up his finger. כי ודאי לא היו חז"ל מביאים בגמרא שיחה בטילה שדחה רבי יהושע בן לוי לאלו הזקנים. The איז'ביצער says it can't be that the גמרא is letting us know that the איז'ביצער was, couldn't care less about זקני אתונא and he brushed them off.

There's no reason why the גמרא would record such a story. The איז'ביצער is saying there's got to be something much deeper here. שהכוונה השאלה היתה על מקום בית המקדש שאמרו שהוא באמצעו של עולם. These Greek חכמים knew that the גמרא says the בית המקדש is the center of the world.

So they were really asking where is the בית המקדש when they were asking what is the middle center point of the universe? That's what they were really asking according to the מי השילוח. Where is the בית המקדש? ושאלו זקני אתונא היכן מקום השכינה? What they're really asking is where is the residing of the שכינה? איי. ולכך הראה להם כאן. Like, I guess when he lifts up his finger, he was pointing to himself, right? It was like this, or like this.

Yeah, maybe like this, like with the thumb towards, right? Whatever it was. ולכך הראה להם כאן, היינו באצבעו כנגד הלב. Therefore he's going like this, כנגד הלב. היינו באצבעו כנגד הלב, כי כל אחד בונה בית המקדש בסוכו על ידי התגברותו נגד אש תאוה של יצר הרע.

Every person builds a holy temple in them when they're able to overcome that passionate fire of lust of the יצר הרע וביד כל אחד ואחד לבנות מקום של השרת השכינה בקרבו ובפנימיותו. I know that these sounds like, these sound like, cheer me up, like lift me up, good vibe וורטס. It really this boils down, this is what makes everything boil down to it. Like if I actually walk out of here right now and I believe that the mirror image of the בית המקדש in שמים is dependent on how I'm going to infuse קדושה in the next few minutes of my life, then the next few minutes of my life become the most important minutes of my life.

And that's how the day continues, over and over and over again. Especially שבת afternoon when we know, when we know that it's always so peachy and smooth and, and and calm and quiet and especially when you have a bunch of kids and it's summer שבת, where basically till 7 p.m. on Friday it's, it's all, it's all come. Right? Yeah. It's all very calm and quiet.

Yeah. But if you can say, today, no matter what's going to happen, I'm going to be, I'm going to, I'm going to be busy building a base, a mirror image of the בית המקדש on Friday afternoon, you'll have an עזר מן השמים, you will have help from above. על דרך זה כתב הרב הקדוש דברי ישראל, זכותו יגן עלינו. Now I want you to know this piece that we're going to see right now is a piece that I was in the office by רב וויינבערגער once with Toby and he was about to really, he wanted to give over to us a lot of things, but he couldn't find the words for everything.

And he went to the ארון ספרים and he pulls down the דברי ישראל למודז'יץ and he opened up to this exact paragraph. We learned it once many years ago. הנה גן עדן של בני ישראל הוא בשמים וגן עדן של הקב"ה הוא בתוך ישראל, ושכנתי בתוכם. Our גן עדן is in heaven.

השם's גן עדן is בתוך עם ישראל. ושכנתי בתוכם. והיינו בתוך ליבו של המפנה ליבו מהבלי העולם ומסור לאביו שבשמים. That one day you just, your thumb, or your, no, your index finger says, I just won't scroll anymore.

For like 20 seconds. I'm just going to stop, I'm just going to stop, or I guess what is it like? thumb? Either thumb or index. Stop. Just for a few minutes.

It's in the heart of the one that says, stop world, come in here, למקדשך תוב. למקדשך תוב, ולקדש קדשים, come back. וזה מה שפירש רש"י, והתהלכתי בתוככם, on the פסוק in בחוקותי, right? I will walk amongst you. אטייל עמכם בגן עדן.

רש"י says, I will, I will travel with you in גן עדן, היינו בתוככם. כי שם הוא הגן עדן של הקב"ה. That's where השם's גן עדן is. חבר'ה, you realize it's worth coming to the world to hear one מודז'יץ תורה like this.

We just don't believe it. We just think he's trying to make us feel better. We don't buy it fully. Because if we did, what would, what would life look like, right? We don't really buy it.

Yeah, cute, פיינע תורה. Let's go weiter here. It's like wait a second, what is he saying over here? רש"י. Forget, forget the מודז'יצער רב, רבי שלמה מודז'יץ.

רש"י is saying this. Look at the, look at the bottom. רש"י, אטייל עמכם בגן עדן. But what does that mean? The מודז'יצער רב says, it means here.

In you, where you're at now. That's my גן עדן. For you, גן עדן is walking with me in this place up there, this abstract, detached place from here. But the איבעשטער is saying, but for me walking with you is literally when you make a שטיקל space for me, that's גן עדן for me.

That's what השם is saying, according to רש"י. וכבר שמענו טענה. We already hear the cynical voice here בקרב מחנינו. Amongst our חבר'ה.

Not by, not by מתנגדים, by חסידים. We already hear the טענה. What? תניחא בימים מקדם, כשהיו בני עולם זכים וקדושים וטהורים, להם נאה ושכנתי בתוכם, בתוך כל אחד ואחד. When השם said ושכנתי בתוכם, to which people were he was he was speaking to? What did they just experience? יציאת מצרים, קריעת ים סוף.

They're experiencing קבלת התורה. בסדר, there I could understand השם is saying ושכנתי בתוכם בתוך כל אחד ואחד. אבל מה תאמר ומה תדבר לבני דור האחרון, הדבויים בגלות הגוף והנפש? But you and I that were born into a world that could barely be מבדיל בין קודש לחול on anything. And even from the moment we're born, most of us are born into a society and into a world where nothing's clear, where all the borders are מטושטשים, all the borders are, how do you say מטושטש? Blurry, everything's blurred.

We barely have a moment of מנוחת הנפש. To us what are you going to say? לא ראו מאורות מימיהם. We never really saw real light. וכי גם להם יאמר ושכנתי בתוכם? Are you going to say השם is also saying to people like this ושכנתי בתוכם? They have a attention span of three and a half seconds of of of closeness to God before the...

The other one? Isn't it the opposite? The question should be on people how do you eat to eat Mitzraim? What's the big deal? 2000 years later, 3000 years later, you still see Hashem, that's where Hashem is. That's the story you just told. Did you read ahead? והוא שאנו רואים שכעת שאנחנו בגלות המר, דווקא אז יש בני אדם שזוכים לרוח הקודש בקלות יתירה מימי הנביאים. There are those that reach these places of רוח הקודש in an easier and smoother way than even when it was in the times of the prophets. שהיו צריכים השבעות והתבודדות רב כידוע. That in that, in in the time of the of the prophets, it wasn't just like they turned on a switch and it was there.

And they were prophets. What did they need? A king dwelling in his own ארמון, his own palace, in his zone, that's his מקום, that's his כבוד, מקום כבודו. You can have the greatest מחשבה as an outsider to come and say, hey king, would you like to come to my place? We have an amazing chef today and we'll take care of everything. He says for so many reasons, it's not כבוד. First of all, to make the king leave his place.

Second of all, you're really going to have everything set up in time? You're really going to have it on a standard that's ראוי למלך? You're not. So it's not כבודיק coming and telling a king, come to my place. אבל, כשהמלך נוסע בדרך ורוצה ללון בדרך, what about if the king is traveling and he wants to take a rest? He needs a שלווי. בדרך, כביכול, right? בדרך, אז אז כשימצא מקום נקי באכסניה, נקי.

The שכינה wants a, all it needs is a just one moment of a clean body, a clean thought, a clean person, in order to reside in.

ואם מצא מקום מנוח, מקום נקי, and if it finds a clean place, if it finds a restful place, that's all it needs, which is what? אדם שהוא רק נקי מעבירות וחטאים, אז שם היא דירתה. Therefore, that's its דירה. It's coming, it's it's not exactly how you said it, but it's a an understanding of why it seems that it's so much more שייך to understand how valuable it is one moment today of saying השם, I know everything in my life is telling me that it's much more כדאי for me to invest my thoughts right now in money, in being a קנאקער, being כאילו, trying to figure out ways to get through, get by, and not just sit here, אני עם מקום כבודו, אני עם מקום כבודו. There's so much consciousness here. Now I'm asking you, למקדשך תוב ולקדש קדשים, come sit here for a few minutes. Here's a קדש קדשים, this table is a קדש קדשים. This is an עבדיך בייחוד, רוחים ונפשים.

This is a place where רוח ונפש come together, join in their בשמחה. נוראות למדנו מכאן, we're going to finish here. שבקל נבוא בדורנו, שיבוא הקב"ה לשכון בתוכנו. It's actually much easier and much more accessible for us today until the בית המקדש is rebuilt, to have the איבעשטער come and reside in my place.

And it's really answering the תפילה of of שלמה המלך. יהי ה' אלקינו עמנו כאשר היה עם אבותינו. But only one condition, בתנאי שנתאר עצמנו מן החטאים. ודורות האחרונים הם המוכשרים לעלות בתשובה וטהרת הלב.

And the last generations, they are the ones that are most prepared to do serious תשובה work and cleansing of the heart. So I'm just, you don't have, those of you that have the ספר will have the next paragraph, but the ones that don't, I'm sorry, it leads to something very חזק. עוד אמרו כי כשם שאנו מבקשים מהקב"ה למקדש יכתוב ולקדש קדשים, this is what we ask on Friday night, שישוב הקב"ה ויבנה בית מקדשנו ותפארתנו במהרה בימינו. Yes, rebuild the בית המקדש and all its glory in our days.

כי מחכים אנחנו לך, because we're waiting for you. כך כביכול גם הקב"ה מבקש מכל אחד ואחד מבניו אהוביו. He's saying a געוואלד thing. It's השם that's singing למקדשך תוב ולקדש קדשים.

It's not us. It's השם saying, קינדערלאך, למקדשך תוב ולקדש קדשים. Go back to your בית המקדש into the קדש הקדשים. הרי בני אתה, ושוב למקומך.

רישון. Go back to your first place. ולקדשתך כבתחילה. ואף אם ירחקת עד מאוד, עדיין הנני מחכה שתחזור אלי בתשובה שלמה.

And even if you've gone so far away, I'm still waiting for you. I'm still waiting for you. כלשון התנא דבי אליהו, מעיד אני עלי שמים וארץ, שהקדוש ברוך הוא יושב ומצפה להם לישראל, יותר ממה שמצפה האב לבנו שיעשה תשובה.תנא דבי אליהו. There are a lot of ביאורים in footnotes today.

We're not going to get to any of them. We'll do it another time. But basically saying that the תנא דבי אליהו says I'm giving testimony, I'm telling you, you think that it's about, you think that it's us sitting here waiting, כי מחכים אנחנו לך. We're waiting for you, השם.

It says you don't understand. However much you think you're waiting for the רבישטר, the רבונו של עולם is saying right back, כי מחכה אני לך. Remember the ווארט? סלונים they say. מלאך is ראשי תיבות, not in order but the same letters, כי מחכים אנחנו לך.

So you have מלאך, an angel is in a state of, I'm just waiting to hear my שליחות. That's all, that's my whole ענין in this world. Like, all I'm doing is waiting to hear what the שליחות is.So, in a certain, even though we usually downplay the role of a מלאך, of us becoming מלאכים, and it's not a great thing to tell your child, call your child, you're such a מלאך, because that doesn't, when you think about it, it doesn't really mean such great things, because a מלאך never really chooses to do anything at all whatsoever.
